Therapy with someone who gets it.
Hi! I’m Kylie Kirkwood (she/her). I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. As a queer, late self-diagnosed neurodivergent person with lived experience of food and body healing, I understand how difficult it is to navigate these challenges. The good news is, you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.
My Approach
Person-Centered & Relational:
Neuroqueer Affirming:
I believe you cannot be neurodivergent affirming without being queer affirming As a neuroqueer person myself, your neurodivergence and queer identity will be celebrated. Furthermore, neurodivergence is not something that can or should be “fixed”. Instead, we will focus on ways to honor your neurodivergence by creating accommodations and cultivating insight, helping you to navigate the neurotypical world we live in.
The most important thing to me is that you feel safe within our therapeutic relationship and that your agency is prioritized. You are the expert on yourself and any goals we create together in therapy with be collaborative and based on the changes you would like to see.
Anti-Diet & Heath at Every Size (HAES) Aligned:
I believe that all foods fit and weight is not correlated with health. In our work together, we will explore how to move away from diet culture that creates value judgements about food and bodies. Through skill building and process oriented discussions, I will help you make peace with your body and support you in moving away from behaviors that no longer serve you.
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID):
I love working with folks who have ARFID. For clients with ARFID, I utilize the Neurodiversity Affirming Model ®. You can learn more about the Neurodiversity Affirming Model ® here. I help clients with ARFID to create safety around food/eating and meet their nutritional needs with safe foods and accommodations. I also help clients process any negative beliefs, harmful experiences, and/or internalized ableism related to having ARFID.
